Common Questions

Is InFocus a web-based application?
If by web-based you are thinking of a typical browser based application that utilizes html markup, then the answer would be no. Instead, InFocus is a smart-client that is deployed using ClickOnce Technology by Microsoft. This means you can still run it over the internet if need be, but without the sluggish performance of browser based applications.
What is ClickOnce Technology?
ClickOnce is an auto-updating deployment technology created by Microsoft. This allows for simple installation for end users through a web browser or file share. Because the application is auto-updating, users don't need to uninstall when there is an update available.
Why Smart-Client instead of Web-Client?
The web is great, and for certain types of applications, HTML provides an adequate interface. However, for applications that require more complex interfaces, and a high degree of usability, HTML (and "web-based" applications in general) can fall short. That is why we chose to use a Smart-Client. In the end, the application is faster, more user-friendly, and supports more complex interfaces. (And it still works over the web!)
What database does InFocus support?
InFocus supports Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2008R2 (All Editions)
Does InFocus Require a Web-Server?
Yes, but it can be the same server that houses your database.
What Operating Systems are supported?
Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7 for the client, and Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, and 2008R2 for the server.
Can I run InFocus on a MAC?
Not natively. You can however run InFocus using virtualization software such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion. (This would still require you installing Windows virtually.)
What is IBRES?
The acronym IBRES stands for Infocus Background Reverse Entry System. When altering or adjusting accounting and labor transactions in Infocus one merely has to call up the original transaction and type over what needs to be the changed. This is similar to applications like Intuit’s Quicken. What is different about Infocus is that it automatically calculates and records the appropriate reverse entry when you make the change. Besides less work for the user it is a more accurate approach that leaves you with a more precise audit.
What size firm can InFocus work with?
There really is no lower or upper limit. InFocus combines an attractive and intuitive user-interface with state-of-the art technology. This makes it easy to use yet robust.
Can InFocus work with any professional services company?
InFocus has been specifically designed for the A/E industry. We are quite confident that it is a great fit for most any firm within this market. While certainly some project centric firms outside of the industry could be sufficiently accommodated, that would need to be evaluated on a case by case basis. There is an old saying that if you market to everyone you market to no one. We feel that systems that try to work for multiple vertical markets by nature become overly complex to set up and use and ultimately fall short of being the best solution for any particular industry.
How is InFocus Licensed?
Licensing is quite simple. It is based on active number of employees. There is no separate charge for individual modules. You get everything.
What does the support plan include?
The support plan includes unlimited phone, email, and ticket technical support. It also includes access to all new releases.
Why don't you license modules individually?
At Clearview, we don't like to be nickle and dimed. And we assumed no-one else does either. Besides, the modules of InFocus work synergistically. Thus, we feel it is important to have access to all of them.
